I was so very happy with the way this book ended: not clichéd, not contrived, not a total departure from the rest of the story. ![]() I could rave all day about the storyline and how it had me guessing and fearful right up until the end, when it promptly went and spun me right round baby right round like a record player right round. I’m serious people: this is right up there with Patrick Rothfuss. In this book, Jemisin gives us one of the best opening performances that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. As if out of nowhere comes this author who has absolutely nailed their debut much like Michael Clarke did for the Australian cricket team. That is the case (as far as I’m aware) for The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, book one in the Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. And probably more often than we like to admit, a book comes out that doesn’t get any hype whatsoever and is absolutely breathtaking. A lot of the time a book will come out that doesn’t deserve any of the hype it’s been getting. Every now and again a book comes out that deserves all the hype that it is getting. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now knowing how close they are will make for interesting reading as the series progresses, especially when it comes to Kat. Kade is a very strong man who has endured unthinkable things. Blane has a huge heart when it comes to his brother. I think it is necessary to know all that Kade and Blane went through separately and together, in the past. I would say you could skip this one because you could figure out what he felt in book one, but I would suggest reading Turn on a Dime, for the reason that, you get the back story of Kade and Blane. So, it's the same story, but you get inside Blane's head to know what. ![]() Review 2: This was a retelling of No Turning Back from Blane's POV. ![]() I'm glad that Kathleen put them in place. I have noticed that that these male characters are egocentric and arrogant.
